What the...?

The Baptists stole our motto! (Taken at the Norman B. Mears library at the University of Sioux Falls.)

BRACE YOURSELF!!!!!!

That's right, I just got back from a SHOWCHOIR concert!!!!!! It was ENERGETIC!!!! EXCITING!!!! AND!! ABOVE!! ALL!!, (just as corny as you would expect). But still a pretty great time, and a reminder of my one and only showchoir appearance at Erin Sigler's coffehouse. Inane dance moves, solos, ballads, pre-show chanting - all blended together into a truly special night that left a permanent smile on my face. Song highlights have to include such classics as Janet Jackson's "Black Cat," Jefferson Starship's "We Built This City (On Rock 'n Roll)," and of course, Europe's "The Final Countdown," all accompanied by only the finest electric piano and drum set. First up were the all freshman girls "New Spirit," as seen above. 25 freshman girls singing. Yee-haw.

Then came the JV team, the "Stagelights." I don't really have anything witty to say about them.

But enough with the opening acts. On to the main group "Classic Connection," or "ClaCo" as it is affectionately known. They stormed the stage with a vibrancy and energy that left us audience members breathless. And look at those dresses!

One of the most impressive numbers was a full blown story song cycle, complete with absolutely incredible props. We could hardly believe that high schoolers were capable of such creativity. Also, we could hardly believe that guy was wearing a kilt while going commando.

I really like the headline in the newspaper article here. Plus, the guy in the suspenders bears a remarkably freaky resemblence to Adam Roth.

Then the girls broke out their sleeping attire for one "hot" number that left us gasping when they flashed the band behind them!

And, speaking of HOT, check out those SUITS!!! Damn, I want one!

Finally, ClaCo was all done. They received a well-deserved standing ovation.

Of course, after it was over they had to present all the seniors with flowers and then thank everybody and then sing one final song all together (man, look at all those showchoir dorks! you know they'll be the coolest people in a few years once they hit college, but right now? can you say awkward?) and then show a 25 minute slide show (yeah, five songs long) of all their exciting backstage preparations.

What a night.

Sad news.

It appears everyone's favorite maple has been wiped away.
I remember all the good times with this tree...SAP days...the stick of death...um...other things.
I feel like crying.
